As you know, my mom and I are dinner theater nerds. (Read Capone's if you haven't.) Murry's Dinner Playhouse was our go to in Arkansas.
Murry's Dinner Playhouse opened in 1967 under a different name. Murry's itself reopened in 1977. They perform a variety of shows, from classics like Little Shop of Horrors to comedies to a show made around Johnny Cash songs. What's great as well is they change their shows year to year with a few repeat fan favorites. They build their own sets using furniture and such from Habitat for Humanity. They cast such talented and funny people. You receive a playbill at the beginning of the show, where you can learn the casts backstory as well as the costume designers and set builders. There's a delicious buffet before the show from 6-7:20pm, show starting at 7:30. After the show you can even meet the performers in this area. Their show days are Wednesday-Saturday in the evenings and matinees on select days. Their website is murrysdp.com if you want to know more!
My mom and I looked forward to Murry's. We were worried they wouldn't reopen after Covid but thankfully they made it! We went to every show for about 2 years getting to the point where we recognized people and they literally knew our drink orders. They genuinely started to feel like family. We even sat at the same table, #68. Not only do we love dinner theaters, but it was also a place we could escape. Our homelife was difficult at times being caregivers. One night a month, we would go to a place where we could laugh, cry, sing, vent. Some of our favorite shows were the Wizard of Oz, Little Shop of Horrors, Southern Fried Funeral, Menopause the Musical, Harvey, and It's a Wonderful Life.
All in all, Murry's has and will always have such a special place in my heart. I kept all the playbills from the shows we went to. I loved the atmosphere in its tucked away corner of the world. If you're ever in Arkansas, I hope you go. You won't be disappointed. Until next time. Bye!
Fun Fact: Their buffet takes inspiration from the show they are performing that month.
