Renaissance Festival: Scarborough

On thoust's (hope I'm using that correctly) 21st birthday, I experienced my first renaissance festival! This was a part of my "medieval" birthday celebration. I also went to Medieval Times for the first time. I have a separate story about what a joy it was, if you are interested in checking it out! Ok, on to the fair fun!

The Scarborough Renaissance Festival is a festival that takes place in Waxahachie, Texas. This festival is massive, from the number of performers, shops, food, rides, games, and everything in between. This event runs from early April to late May. What's fun about this festival, besides the fact that you can dress up, (optional) is that they have a plethora of themes, so you could have a different experience every time you go!

Some offerings that I experienced were, The Pinwheel Sideshow, belly dancing, and a fantastic adult duo-style comedy show. We sipped on a bee sting (an alcoholic beverage with honey mead at the bottom and top, with pear hard cider in middle...delicious) and enjoyed the atmosphere. Admiring the creative costumes of fellow festival enthusiasts, exploring shops with all kinds of 16th century garb, (pouches, swords, robes, flower crowns, the works) and of course, throwing tomatoes at a heckler (highly recommend!) But that doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of this festival.

There are many photo opportunities from flowered arch ways, to just the shops themselves. You are surrounded by such an immersive environment. People greeting each other with "Good Morrow," "How thy be," "My lady," and "Fare thee well." You walk from the parking lot into a world of the past. That's whimsical and doesn't seem real. This festival is one I hope to go back to again soon!

I hope you enjoyed reading and check this festival out for yourselves. Until next time. Bye!
