I hope everyone had a safe and HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I just returned from a great, Halloween weekend getaway to Casey Key. This trip was with my mom, her friends, and me at the cutest VRBO (at reasonable price for this time of year.) They had recently traveled to Siesta Key/Sanibel Island and drove through this adorable beachside community. A trip was planned. Here I am to tell you why you should consider/go to Casey Key. Enjoy!
Casey Key is located between Venice, FL and Sarasota, FL. You'll most likely visit Osprey and Nokomis by default while you're there. Spend the day at the beach, visit the tourist shops (whether from out of town or Florida itself), and ABSOLUTELY drive through the neighborhood of massive, spectacular houses. I highly recommend the Paradise Grill with the thatched roof next to Publix and the Dockside Waterfront Grill in Venice, FL (the Boom Boom shrimp wrap with fries was delicious.) The downtown area of Venice, FL area is picturesque and has unique art during their "farmer's market" esc event. Melissa's ice cream shop hits that sweet treat spot.
We stayed during the "winter season" for Florida, so the water was frigid and the air brisk. Our beach time consisted of long sleeves, jackets, and leggings. Watching sunsets bundled up was something I didn't know I needed. Casey Key is good for shell hunting but many of them are broken and ground into the sand. The ultimate rite of passage is finding the perfect shell to hang on the shell trees that can be found near the entrance to the beach from the parking area. Something that was surprisingly funny to me, was how warm and clean the bathrooms are during this time. The Pelican Alley restaurant near Casey Key was a neat sight on Halloween as every was dressed in their costumes.
Well, I hope this post convinced you to visit Casey Key (even in the winter!) Until next time. Bye!
Lesson Learned: Nothing can compete with a beach sunset.
