In this post we're going from the lazy river to the road. If you haven't read part one of this, you might be a bit confused. (Go read part one.) Today we are going to dive into my last two near death experiences. Let's go!
To start off my family was on our way to a basketball game on I-40 headed to Memphis, Tennessee. For context my mom and dad owned a basketball team for about a year and a half. It was pretty successful and of course we would go to games out of state. For personal reasons we were not able to keep the team. But it was still an amazing experience and fun to talk about.
But onto the scary part. We were driving and came to a sudden and abrupt stop around a curve, almost colliding with the car ahead of us. The reason for our stop was construction work being done. We sat there for a while and I remember hearing my mom say, "We're going to die." I said, "What?" She was looking in the rearview mirror. I looked behind us and saw a giant semi-truck barreling toward our car with no sign of stopping.
Our reaction wasn't like you see in the movies. There was no praying or shouting "I love you" profusely to ones you care about or even bawling our eyes out. We just sat there, watching in horror, holding our breath, waiting to die. Seconds turned into minutes, and we were still breathing. Still looking out the back window of the car. We patted ourselves all over to make sure we were real.
How, might you ask, did we survive? You know the orange barrels you see on the side of the road in a construction site. The ones to keep you on the road. Well, the semi-truck was able to pull off the road perfectly in between two orange barrels, not even a tire out of line. A true professional and fast thinking truck driver. He was fantastic! And we are thankful every day to him for being such a great driver.
Now we have made to my fourth and final (Thank you very much!) near death experience. This is the more recent and dumbest of the four. I was 19 at the time of this event. I was waiting for my mom to get off work and was sitting in the car. I should mention that it was in the middle of summer, in the south. Not good... I had the spare key and used that to turn off the car, then dropped the key into my backpack.
I was playing on my phone, and it started to feel a little warm. I brushed it off. Then it started to feel a bit hotter, I started to sweat more and more. I completely panicked. I truly believed I didn't have a key to the car at this point, so I texted my mom and told her what was going on. She told me to open the car door, but I didn't because I didn't want to set off the alarm. She text and called me to open the car door with more force behind her words.
So finally, I opened the door, the alarm did not go off. I breathed in the sweet outside air from which I never thought I'd breathe again. Once my mom was leaving work, I told her how scary it was. I thought I was going to die. On our way home I grabbed my backpack from the floor, and let's say it together folks, I found the key. My mom honestly just laughed at me as I held up the key. (Wow just wow!)
Thank you for reading this post I really do appreciate you. I am so incredibly happy that these are stories I can tell and weren't the end of me. I know there are some that are not as fortunate. Please chat with me and share your stories if you'd like. Until next time. Bye!
