Possible Ritual?

Since spooky season if fast approaching (and this will be my last post of September) I thought I would give you a hint of what October posts have to offer. Join me for a scary experience my mom, a friend, and I had a few years back. Enjoy!
So, to set the scene, it was a dark and stormy night. (Cue lightning, cue thunder.) Well, that's an exaggeration but it was dark. (shrugs) Going on, this story takes place on an October night. I was around 16, when my mom, a friend, and I went driving around. The roads were pretty empty, but we were trying to get into the scary spirit, so it worked! We visited an abandoned hospital (we did not go inside) and told scary stories. The friend wanted us to go by a house where a horrific crime took place when she was a high schooler. I will spare you the gruesome details. This house gave us goosebumps though; it looked evil. Yes, it was dark and yes, we knew it's background, but we still felt uncomfortable sitting right in front of it.
With the backstory of our night out of the way, we can go on to the possible ritual. After visiting this awful house, we made our way down the street to loop back onto the original road, drive by the creepy house, and continue with our spooky drive. On this street to turn around, we encountered something that made us feel like we shouldn't have been there at all. As we sat there, we saw a group of people, some in robes, standing around a bonfire in a tall, metal looking bin. They were a few feet ahead of our car but once we were spotted, a couple of the people began CHARGING at us.
My mom gunned the gas and quickly turned that car around as the friend and I yelled, "GO, GO, GO!!!" Even as we made our way down the road (clearly headed away from them) we could see them looking at the car from the edge of the street. Panting/gasping, we all looked at each other and tried to make sense of what we just seen. An intense and frightening moment, that could have turned serious. One minute you're out wanting to get spooked and the next you are witnessing more than you bargained for.
